2026 Olympic Winter games
February 6 through March 15, 2026
Ten years and a bit after Expo 2015, the city of Milan is officially back to the international scene. Although only partly hosted in town, the 2026 Olympic Winter games – followed by the
Paralympic ones, scheduled respectively February 6 through 22 and March 6 through 15 – are entitled Milano-Cortina, the partner being a world-renowned alpine resort in the middle of the Dolomites whose complete name is
Cortina d'Ampezzo.
.:. Cortina already hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics (no Paralympics seventy years ago...), and more cities and valleys north of Milan are involved this time. The list includes
Livigno and
Bormio (in Lombardy, the same region as Milan),
Tesero and
Predazzo (in the Trentino region), the German-speaking
Antholz (or Anterselva, in South Tyrol) as well as – last but not least –
Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet now in the Veneto region.
.:. Milano hosts a temporary
Megastore placed in front of its cathedral, and competitions in figure skating, ice hockey, short track speed skating and speed skating. A
map of the locations in town is available. Please consider, however, that tickets to attend on the spot are not exactly cheap.
