Though still life painting has ancient origins (even before the Middle Ages), the genre was well en vogue in Lombardy during the 19th century. Captivating evidence is exhibited here: vessels by Emilio Longoni, fruit by Giorgio Belloni, flowers by Francesco Hayez and Gaetano Previati, and pheasants by Francesco Filippini.
.:. Besides, in the Foundation's Art Gallery, find several works by Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo and his divisionist brother-in-arms, like Plinio Nomellini, Angelo Morbelli, and Giovanni Segantini.
.:. Also to be visited in the vicinities is the birthplace of Pellizza, Volpedo, still with the painter's workshop and a small well-preserved old town, complete with a medieval church and a castrum.
