Turner: l’incanto del lago di Como e del paesaggio italiano
May 29 through September 27, 2026
One of Britain's greatest painters comes home to the lake that captivated him.
Como hosts a major cultural event centred on
William Turner (1775–1851), the most celebrated painter of English Romanticism.
.:. The show explores how travel shaped Turner's vision, focusing on the Italian landscape — and Lake Como in particular. From swift sketches made on his first Italian journey in 1819 to the luminous, almost abstract studies of the 1840s, the works trace Turner's evolving obsession with light, atmosphere, and the dissolving boundary between land and sky.
.:. The exhibition has been jointly organised by the City of Como and the Tate Gallery, and brings together watercolours and oil paintings — all from the Tate collection — spread across two historic city venues: the Broletto and the
Pinacoteca Civica at 84, Via Diaz.
.:. Alongside the Turner exhibition, a companion show —
Feeling Colour: Jim Lambie and David Batchelor — presents contemporary works from the Tate collection at the former church of San Pietro in Atrio at 3, Via Odescalchi.
