one picture only .:. Sasamoto (Kanagawa, 1980) moved from Japan to the US to study mathematics, but she became a dancer. Now she's a renowned artist, a performer, and a very amusing person. She clearly has fun doing what she does, turning tables on the floor, riding cardboard cylinders, telling her story, and staring the world around through a glass. What's more, she naturally shares her fun with her audience. It's a matter of empathy.
.:. This, however, is exactly the issue with the brilliant exhibition of her works currently held in Milan. It's the same situation as when you are asked to appreciate, say, Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) by looking at some contexts of his past performances. If you didn't happen to see Beuys acting in person before, you don't really perceive what the matter is.
.:. In other words, you are certainly welcome to go to the Hangar anytime, and look at several of the contexts Sasamoto designed for her performances. But if you want to have fun, and understand what the matter is, you'll have to make a note of the days when the artist performs here actually, listed below.
