Il Polittico di Monte San Martino
December 3, 2025 through January 11, 2026
The
Crivelli polyptych in Monte San Martino by the 15th-century Venetian brothers Carlo e Vittore
Crivelli is temporarily displayed at Palazzo Marino, the seat of the
Comune di Milano. It's an extraordinary piece of art for its quality, complexity and Gothic expressiveness, on loan from the parish church of San Martino Vescovo in Monte San Martino (province of Macerata). The face of
St. Catherine of Alexandria (pictured), part of the upper compartment, particularly stands out.
.:. The polyptych, dated around 1490, is made of ten panels, with a predella depicting Christ blessing between the Apostles. The Virgin and Child at the center of the lower compartment recall the Mystery of
Christmas.
.:. On December 7 the exhibition closes at 12 noon; on December 24 and 31, at 6pm; on December 8 and 26 and on January 1st and 6 at 8pm. On Christmas the exhibition is open from 2:30 to 6:30pm.
