The best kept secret in Milan is a garden, an historic one, and it's not a secret. The point is that since time immemorial the garden of the
Villa Reale, aka Villa Belgiojoso Buonaparte next to the wider
Public Gardens, can only be accessed by children under 12 years – and their parents, of course. Thus, how the gardens look like remains a secret, unless you have children or can borrow some.
.:. Enter the fashion brand
Furla, which reached an agreement with the Municipality (that owns both the villa and the garden), an art gallery (
Vistamare) and a quite interesting artist (
Sara Enrico, pictured) to populate the historic greenery with purposely devised installations. You have the opportunity to visit an 18th-century garden otherwise not accessible and enjoy some artworks en plein air.
.:. Enrico's creations blend in with the flowerbeds and very old plane trees, where only some textile shapes and occasional coloured metalworks interrupt nature. 18th-century statues appear here and there. The secret is no more, but don't forget to bring a mosquito repellent with you.
