A Russian artist of Polish origins, Kazimir Severinovich Malevich (1879-1935) was a pioneer of geometric abstract and the founder of the avant-garde Suprematist movement in 1916. Malevich was a big fan of the October Revolution, and very determined in his education endeavours in Vitebsk (Belarus) and later in St. Petersburg.
.:. Not very many of Malevich's works survive. Some twenty of them were left in Berlin, and were purchased by the Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum in 1958. Many of the works currently on display in Bergamo belong to the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg - a city, after all, which was largely designed by an architect from Bergamo in the 18th century.
