For the 68th year, Locarno's Piazza Grande is at the heart of the eponymous international film festival. Every early August up to 8,000 moviegoers fill the Main Square of the Swiss-Italian town for eleven nights, while industry professionals congregate - here at the crossroads of Italian, German and French cultures - to attend world premières and discover emerging artists.
.:. Locarno's awards are called Pardos, or Leopards. Some of them are assigned among a selection of renowned directors, others to promising new talents (Pardi di Domani) or seasoned artists: this year career Pardos go to Andy Garcia, Michael Cimino and Marco Bellocchio, among others. The whole program, which includes nine venues, is available here.
