June 20 through July 12, 2017
times vary according to events; many at 12 noon and 9pm
A summer Milanese - well, obviously... - festival in its 18th edition, the Milanesiana offers a rich program of readings, concerts, meetings and films, developing this year's theme Fear and Courage.
.:. The Nobel Prize writers Wole Soyinka (July 6) and John Coetzee (July 7) take part, and so do Ismail Kadare and Tahar Ben Jelloun. Among Italians, Vittorio Sgarbi, Claudio Magris and a concert starring Gino Paoli, Danilo Rea and Sergio Cammariere (June 25) are particularly worth mentioning.
.:. Beyond the Teatro Dal Verme, the Milanese venues include the Teatro Franco Parenti, the Spazio Oberdan, the Paolo Grassi hall of the Piccolo Teatro, the Antonia Jannone art gallery, and a bunch of public or private meeting places. Out-of-town events are scheduled at the Venaria Reale close to Turin (Michael Nyman on June 22) as well as in Bormio, Florence, and Verbania.
.:. The festival is trendy enough. Reservations recommended.
