August 1st through 31, 2016
August is the month when most of the Milanese go on holiday. Signs saying
Chiuso per Ferie, closed for vacation, are posted almost everywhere and things to do and see in town are few and far between. Assorted open-air spots - the
Sforza Castle among them - provide backdrops for a few concerts and performances.
.:. The city is even more deserted around August 15, called
Ferragosto. When Ferragosto comes, as this year, next to a weekend, even the diehards surrender and abandon Milan.
.:. Some notable exceptions. Through August, visitors enjoy nearly every day all the 21st
Triennale attractions, the
Torre Branca, and the
Poldi Pezzoli museum. which is free on Wednesday 10 and Wednesday 24, and open even the Ferragosto day. The
Brera National Art Gallery, too, is open on the Ferragosto day.
.:. Even the exhibition ground where last year the
Expo 2015 was in full blossom can be
visited again, and it's free, though only the Italian Pavillion and its
Tree of Life can be enjoyed, among summer events and cafeterias.
