Laglio
North of Moltrasio the Strada Regina passes Carate Urio to reach Laglio.

Laglio, nestling between Cernobbio and Menaggio, is a village of Roman origin that recently made the international headlines. The actor George Clooney, star of Ocean's Eleven, Intolerable Cruelty and Good Night, and Good Luck, fell in love with the quiet Italian lifestyle he discovered here and decided to make Laglio his second home. Could you be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him during your visit?
"Villa L'Oleandra": a plaque you can see from the road tells you this is the house occupied by Laglio's most famous citizen. George Clooney spends about four months of the year here. Obviously, you can't expect to be invited in by Clooney and have a cup of tea! You'll find it much easier to gain access to other parts of Laglio, where the air is imbued with the scent of luxuriant local vegetation.
The 17th-century church of San Giorgio boasts modelled plasterwork and friezes done in the following century by Stefano Salterio; this local sculptor specialized in sacred artworks. On the right side of the church is the oratory of the Confratelli del Santissimo Sacramento: its altarpiece depicts the Madonna of the Rosary and is the work of Carlo Innocenzo Carloni, an 18th-century painter from the nearby Intelvi Valley who was employed at several European courts. There is also a remarkable stucco altar, this too by Stefano Salterio.
Along the Strada Regina towards Menaggio, the Pyramid, some 20 metres high, standing next to Laglio cemetery is a funerary monument commemorating Joseph Frank, who was a physician with the Austrian imperial household. After moving to Como in 1829, he fell in love with Laglio and chose to be buried here.
